We saw the world cup come to the Kansas City area this summer and some hot and humid days. Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Jordan, and Troy Jordan traveled to Louisiana in July and learned a lot about how to bring the best direct patient care to our patients. The good news is that we have been following best practices already, but there is always room for improvement. With training sessions and classes from 8-5 there was a lot to take in. It was exciting too see so many doctors from across the country who are launching DPC practices that have things in common with Oakhaven Health. That said a common phrase that we heard was that "if you've seen one DPC practice, you've seen one DPC practice". The reason that is true is that a DPC is tailored to the needs of its members and focused on providing that care in a way that makes sense in the city that it is located within. DPC's are not monolithic in nature, but there are some enduring principles that make them special.

• DPC's value patient relationships over transactions - Transactional medicine reduces the doctor-patient interaction to the equivalent to a visit to the store to buy groceries. It is necessary, but it is not a deep relationship. As a DPC we focus on specializing in you as the patient.
